Specify the light before the wall panel
List the activities in each room: food preparation, reading, work and relaxed evening use. Discuss glare, fixture locations and the appearance of light with a lighting designer. A smart switch cannot correct an unsuitable fixture or a poorly positioned downlight.
Test the actual driver and dimmer
Ask for the exact luminaire, driver and control combination. Test low-level dimming, smooth transitions, flicker and audible noise with a sample before ordering throughout the home. Keep decorative-lighting procurement coordinated with the controls specification.
Build scenes people understand
Name scenes by use, such as reading or evening, and agree where they can be triggered. Retain a simple physical action for ordinary use. Compare programming, fixture supply, commissioning and later scene changes as distinct quotation items.

Which dimming system should I use?

When should lighting design start?
Before electrical drawings and false-ceiling design are fixed. Changing circuits and fixture positions after plaster is expensive.
How many lighting scenes does a room need?
