THE SHORT ANSWER

How much do smart switches cost in India?

Smart switches in India cost from about ₹999 for a basic 4-node Wi-Fi module (Aziot) to roughly ₹1,200 per switch for Wipro, Havells or GM, ₹2,500 for Schneider Wiser or Legrand and ₹6,000+ for Lutron or Basalte (Studio Matrx). Installed retrofit modules run ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 per point.

Identify what the control actually does

A wall device may switch a load directly, operate a dimmer or send a scene command to another component. Ask the electrician and integrator to show the complete control path. A visually similar replacement is not evidence that the existing wiring supports it.

Coordinate fit and electrical requirements

Have a qualified electrician inspect the box dimensions, neutral availability, load type and protective arrangements. Do not open a live switchboard yourself. Specify the exact system variant, finish and engraving before the architect finalises the elevation.

Review with the household

Test how a visitor turns on ordinary lighting, how a family member changes a scene and how controls behave at night. Ask who can edit the configuration later. Compare the completed board, associated modules and programming as a package.

Current information to check

Matter 1.6 introduces additional commissioning options, but product adoption varies. Confirm the purchased switch supports the intended setup method before treating a release announcement as a feature.

Questions answered

How much do smart switches cost in India?

Studio Matrx gives reference points of about ₹1,200 per switch for Wipro, Havells and GM, ₹2,500 for Schneider Wiser and Legrand, and ₹6,000+ for Lutron and Basalte, plus ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 per point for an installed retrofit module. Aziot lists a 4-node module at ₹999. These are published planning references, not quotes: ask local providers to price the same written scope.

Do smart switches need a neutral wire?

Many do. Check with your electrician whether each switchboard has a neutral before choosing a model, and ask the supplier which loads (fans, LED drivers, geysers) each module can switch.

Is GST charged on smart switches?

Ask for GST on every line. Retail listings such as Moglix’s Wipro smart touch switch show about 18% GST inside the price; equipment and installation may be taxed differently.

Can I keep my existing switchboards?

Often yes, with retrofit modules behind the plate, if the box depth and wiring allow. A full touch-plate replacement costs more but changes the look and the controls in one step.

Touch switches or retrofit modules: which is better?

Touch plates change the look and controls in one step but cost more and need matching back boxes. Retrofit modules keep your existing switches and are cheaper, but depend on box depth and wiring. Decide per room, starting with the rooms you use most.

What should I check before ordering smart switches?

Neutral availability at each board, box depth, the load on each channel (LED, fan, geyser), the app or hub the switches need, and whether they support Matter or your preferred voice assistant. Ask for the model and channel count on the quote.
